Akamizu-keikoku (Akamizu valley) is a unique place. Its riverbed is a big monolith, and water fills the U-shaped valley of the river.

It was called a promenade in the heaven in the TV program featuring I saw. A young actress was wading upstream with a guide; water was just ankle deep, and they were walking merrily. (Later I discovered that the actress is a triathlete.)

I was hooked on going to Akamizu Keikoku since then. I bought a map of Moriyoshi-zan, and waited for a chance to get there.

There were many hurdles to overcome, but to make a long story short, we, my climbing friend and I, finally arrived at the parking lot of Moriyoshi Mountain Wild Animal Center at 8:45 of October 5, which is the entry point to Akamizu Keikoku. The weather was not perfect, a bit too cold to walk in the water, the water level was rather high due to much rainfall until the day before, and it was too early to enjoy the autumn colors, but we proceeded anyway.

We put on wading shoes and started walking. An incomplete guidepost lured us into a wrong direction and we lost one hour before coming back to the starting point! We started over and walked in the beautiful forest of Japanese beech. After one hour of walking, we came to a river bank and walked the trail along the river for a while. Water was clear and flowing gently. There was a fixed rope on the bank, and we used it to climb down the rock surface into the river. From there, our feet were always in the water until we came back.

The scenery was breath-taking. We carefully chose the shallow riverbed, and avoided stepping into churn holes. A group of four people were ahead of us. They were concerned about the volume of the water. Then, one of them slipped on the slab and fell into the water. (I did not see it, though.) Other people helped him to change to dry clothes, and they turned around and left. We continued on, and came to a fork to Usagidaki (Rabbit Waterfall), our destination.

From the branch, the current became calm, and the landscape was full of trees and bushes. Finaly we arrived at Usagidaki. I was fascinated with the artistic shape of the waterfall.

After taking photos and enjoying the view, we turned back the route we came, and arrived at the branch to Momodo-daki. This waterfall is a must-to-see. So we went to see it, almost running all the time. Momodo-daki looked bluish in the late afternoon light.

It was a long day. We came back to the parking lot at around 16:30. It will be a great memory to take to my afterlife!
